Can cheese be left out for 24 hours?

Do not let it sit for more than 4 hours! There’s been extensive research conducted in Wisconsin which has proven that cheese is able to remain in the fridge for up to 6 hours at 70degF or cooler. Cheeses that are hard like Parmesan can remain in the fridge for up to 24 hours and still be acceptable However, a fresh cheddar is more prone to breakage.

Once you’ve taken your cheese out of the fridge, be sure to re-cover it with its original wrapping, or wrap it in a new piece of wax paper, aluminum foil, or plastic wrap. If you do not have any of these materials on hand, you can place the cheese in a resealable baggie. Finally, store your cheese in the main compartment of the fridge as opposed to the door.
